WELCOME to Soap Opera News
In the world of daytime we have seen many exits, comings and goings. We have seen many killed off, written off or just disappear but this year we have seen too many popular, loved and well adored stars walk away from the roles that made them a household name.
This has been one of the most shocking week for fans. We never saw this one coming. This year has been full of surprising exits and the worst part is it's the actors and actresses decision to leave.
Bryan Craig - Ofcourse, he is noted as a main member of the cast but in recent news he opted to leave 'General Hospital'. His role as Morgan allowed him to win the Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actor this year. Morgan is a core character so in no way did anyone foresee an exit. His reason for leaving is due to him feeling he has done enough there but could he heading elsewhere?
Jen Lilley - Another shocker, another talented actress and another core character at that. Since her debut in the role of Theresa Donovan she has delivered outstanding performances day in day out. Now Lilley has opted to leave to pursue other projects.
Will her character be killed off or will she ride off into the sunset ?
Who knows, whatever the writers decide to do with her doesn't change the fact that she is a core character. With strong ties to the 'Donovan' family and now to the 'Kiriakis' family, Theresa is important to Salem.
Tyler Christopher - He is the second actor on our list who is currently holding an Emmy winning title, after winning the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a drama series this year. Maybe we can't say the decision to leave was entirely his because the real reason for him not returning to the ABC daytime soap opera is due to complications in a contract negotiations with the show.
Personally, we believe ABC and 'General Hospital' should have done everything in their power to keep this fine talented actor a member of their cast. Considering how there has been a constant swap of GH actors to Y&R and vice-versa, another show out there might just reach out to the actor.
Justin Hartley - he is probably one of the best things to happen to 'The Young and the Restless' in a long time. Man did Hartley just walk on the soap and grab our attention. He deliver A+, top notch, super-fabulous and all kinds of shade performances throughout his entire run.
Like the others on the list he chose to walk away from this role - this though is due to his work on the upcoming NBC series 'This Is Us' which premieres later this month. We knew it was coming but was very hopeful - we hoped he would have chosen to do double duty unfortunately he did not.
Let's face it - Adam is very important to Genoa City, he is tired to one of the core families there and still has a wife and child or children in GC. Will the show recast the role or have we truly seen the last of Adam Newman?
Kate Mansi - Last but definitely not least. Mansi also chose to walk away from playing Abigail Deveraux on 'Days of Our Lives' to pursue other opportunities.
In record Mansi is the best Abby to have graced the NBC soap opera. We are still waiting to see what her successor brings to the table but we you have found something good acknowledge it and that's what we are doing with Mansi.
We do wish her all the best but we sure would have loved to see her continue as Abigail.
So after perusing this list we recognize that some of the best names in daytime for the past couple years have chosen to leave. Is the issue with Daytime? Is it with the material or the writing? In one year we have lost some of the best, the ones daytime viewers have grown to love and adore.
Will they return to daytime in a couple years from now? Only time will tell!
